Ayurveda: Yoga as a Way of Life
Five-day Ayurveda Immersion Workshop

Shakti Smith and Kim Kinjo

Have you ever…

…wished for better health: balanced digestion, sound sleep, less anxiety, or more energy?

…wondered about a simple, holistic way of being?

…wanted to “go deeper” into your yoga practice, take it off the mat and into your daily life, but just didn’t know what that meant?

The answer to all of these questions lies in Ayurveda. Ayurveda IS living a yogic lifestyle, IS living in harmony with your environment.  Ayurveda is living in balance…

If these thoughts resonate with you, join Ayurvedic Health Practitioner Shakti Dickey and Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist Kim Kinjo for a lifestyle immersion into Ayurveda: the ancient, healing, sister-science of Yoga.

Like two sides of the same coin, Yoga and Ayurveda are inseparable. While Yoga prepares the body for meditation and spiritual growth through postures and breathwork, Ayurveda provides specific, individualized, practical guidelines for your daily life. Together, Yoga and Ayurveda promote healing, health, and the foundation for personal transformation.

Ayurveda is an intuitive and artful science that is truly about living in harmony with yourself and your environment. Through creative hands-on workshops, including cooking and yoga classes, you will learn the basic principles of Ayurveda, determine your Ayurvedic constitution, and learn how to achieve and maintain physical well-being and emotional balance. With three amazing fresh cooked meals and two all-level yoga classes per day, free time exploring the natural diversity of this incredible island paradise, and sleeping to the gentle sounds of the rain forest, at the end of the week you will not only be rejuvenated and refreshed, you will have a personalized, practical, daily guide to be literally, living yoga.

Schedule

Each day we will have 2 workshops outlining the principles of Ayurveda and Ayurvedic nutrition and cooking. Some of the topics include: the Guidelines for Healthy Eating, the Five Elements Theory, 20 Attributes of all Nature, the Tri-doshic Theory, determining your Ayurvedic constitution, shopping for an Ayurvedic pantry, herbs and spices for healing, concepts of healthy digestion and cell creation, dinacharya (personal body-care practices), creating a balanced massage oil, color and aromatherapy, and mantra and chanting for healing. Two yoga asana classes per day will be offered in the workshop, including pranayama, meditation, and a session on the principles of Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy. Click here for daily schedule.

This retreat is all about investigating, educating, and motivating one on how to transition gracefully to a new, more balanced way of living. We will teach classical Ayurvedic techniques in a practical way, so that when you go back home to your busy life you will have the tools to easily incorporate what you have learned into your daily routine.

Some familiarity with Yoga is helpful, but not necessary, as the Yoga classes will be all-levels. All that’s required is a desire to learn and grow, while relaxing in a beautiful, tranquil, and serene island locale.

Location

We will be staying at Kalani Oceanside Retreat, on the “Big Island” of Hawaii, bordered by tropical jungle and the Pacific Ocean. For more than 30 years, Kalani has been a soulful place of refuge and renewal for international guests. During our stay we will take an excursion to a nearby natural place, depending on workshop participants’ desires. Kalani is located in an area of incredible diversity: tropical rainforest, tide pools, flowing lava from an active volcano (!), black sand beaches, and more. Possible excursions include: the champagne ponds, swimming with dolphins at Kehena black sand beach, Kapoho tide pool snorkeling, a visit to the lava flow (dependent on current conditions), Hilo’s botanical gardens, the steam vents, or Lava Tree State Park. (Nominal fee, depending on activity.)
